Paper production in Grünhainichen can be traced back to the 19th century. In 1880 Friedrich Otto Siegel and Carl Friedrich Haase established the company Siegel & Haase. Abundant wood and water supply made the production of groundwood pulp possible. Further groundwood mills followed and in 1890 the first paper machine was built for the production of printing and writing papers.

In 1972 the production of glassine and greaseproof paper was started. For these papers the paper machine 4 was reconstructed. Since 1990 glassine and greaseproof paper represent the main production program. The years from 1990 till 2000 were extremely turbulent, characterized by frequent production stoppages and eventually a temporary plant closure. In April 2001 the GRÜNPERGA Papier GmbH was founded. We started with the production of glassine and greaseproof paper and completed our product range with crepe paper in 2004. Today, GRÜNPERGA supplies paper to nearly all parts of the world. We have more than 300 customers who consider us as reliable and innovative partner.
